We can only offer this volunteering opportunity to scientists based in the UK right now due to safeguarding laws. In accordance with this, you must have a criminal background check to participate in calls. Note that you do not need one to write a scientific article for us.
We rely on a volume of families to get you assigned. Please note, that you could be waiting a while depending on your interests and/or the number of families waiting. As we pointed out, however, there is no guarantee we can pair you with a family with your scientific interests. If you are uncomfortable with one-to-one calls, we will try and pair you up with someone. Please let us know about this in the "Anything you would like us to know?" section above.
Once you are signed up with us and we have confirmed your background check (if applicable), we will get in touch to provide resources needed for calls, as well as the general framework/protocol for calls. If, at any point, you have any questions, please get in touch at

By signing up to the SND program, it is assumed that you consent for us to hold your personal data. We will retain this information for as long as you are involved with SND. When we assign you to a family, we will contact you ASAP. If you do not reply, we will remind you every few weeks for up to 3 months, at which point we will assume you no longer want to be involved. We will then delete all of your personal data in accordance with GDPR guidelines. Equally, if at any point you contact us to inform us that you no longer wish to be involved, we will delete your data.
