Sign on to support People's Budget LA
The Black Lives Matter-Los Angeles-led People's Budget LA coalition formed in April 2020. It coalesced in response to Mayor Eric Garcetti's draconian budget proposal, which gave 54% of the city's unrestricted general funds to the LAPD and which, in total, gave the LAPD 3.15 billion dollars. The coalition engaged a diverse group of Angelenos through the People's Budget LA survey, which revealed Angelenos' priorities. With the collected data, the coalition created The People's Budget to demand that the Mayor and City Council prioritize care, NOT cops.
People's Budget LA demands drastic changes to LA’s budget; specifically, it is calling on LA City Council and the Mayor to immediately #DefundThePolice as the first step towards abolition. This is an abolitionist movement, and this first demand is just one step towards our larger goal. The coalition is inviting individuals and organizations to sign on in support of this movement. Please recognize that in signing, you are agreeing to accept and uplift the BLMLA-led People's Budget LA demands.
