PERCS Seminar Code of Conduct:

Pal(a)eo PERCS is a virtual seminar series designed to showcase the research of early career scientists in all fields of paleo sciences (-ntology, -ecology, -ceanography, -climate, etc). By signing up to be put on the email list, you agree to adhere to the following code of conduct while participating in seminars, either as a speaker or audience member. Organizers will enforce this code as necessary to ensure that all participants feel welcome. We as organizers are committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within our own respective scientific sub-disciplines, and extend this commitment to the series we have created.

In trying to create an informative, insightful, and inclusive seminar series, we value the presentations and attendance of diverse scientists from a range of backgrounds and experiences. As a result, this seminar is committed to maintaining a harassment-free environment for everyone. Accordingly, participants are expected to treat one another with respect and dignity regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, marital or parental status, age, immigration status, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion (or lack thereof), socioeconomic background, educational background, career stage, military service or veteran status.

Questions and discussions should be respectful and constructive. Any comments or behaviors that may reasonably be assumed to have the effect of creating, contributing to, or maintaining an environment that is hostile toward or damaging to a person or group are prohibited. Participants may also not record or take photos of any part of the seminars as data may be unpublished. This code of conduct also extends to post-seminar online engagement with the PERC Seminar material, including but not exclusive of YouTube comments, tagged twitter posts, and other directly PERC-related online activities.

Engaging in harassing or prohibited behavior will result in organizers taking appropriate action, including warning the offender and/or expulsion from the current and/or future seminars. Participants asked to stop any harassing or other prohibited behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the seminar host or one of the seminar organizers via paleopercs@gmail.com, or live in the chat (messages can be sent directly to hosts).

Your email address will be kept confidential and this list will only be used for disseminating PERCS Seminar information.

Accessibility Requests
Pal(a)eo PERCS is committed to producing an accessible virtual seminar series. Some of our efforts include live-captioning of talks using auto-captions, seminar recordings available to attendees for later viewing, and encouraging our speakers to use colorblind-friendly graphics. However, we recognize that these efforts are not exhaustive, and that accessibility is a continual work in progress. We are an international, institution-independent coalition of early career researchers, and we would like to do right by our community members. If there is an accommodation that would improve your ability to participate in this seminar series, please leave it here or reach out to us at paleopercs@gmail.com and we will work with you. Thank you!
