The eRImote project team is pleased to announce the organization of 5 Expert Groups within the eRImote project, which will be dedicated to addressing various questions related to Remote and Digital Access Provision.
Expert Group I - Quality assurance (e.g., Research experience, Sample handling)
The expert group, consisting of members across domains, service categories and geographical regions, will focus on successful solutions and current challenges in the quality assurance of remote and virtual/digital access services, as experienced both by the access providers and the researchers using the services.
Expert Group II - Data sharing, Data access and security
The expert group will consider how we manage and enable timely and effective access to data, whilst upholding security and ensuring obligations to data owners are met. Topics for discussion will span technical and process solutions that address: authentication and authorisation of users and RI staff; data classification models and related modes of access; licensing and contracts; and infrastructure security measures.
Expert Group III - Remote training for RI staff and researchers
The expert group III will focus on remote training for RI staff and researchers in general. Its main tasks are to explore the different methodologies used in different scientific domains and types of RI in order to learn from each other and identify needs of staff and researchers. The group will explore the impact of remote training on staff interaction and networking and its goals are to promote the exchange of experiences and solutions, collect resources, and identify common roadblocks in the provision of remote training.
Expert Group IV - Remote Instrument control
The Remote instrument control expert group intends to deal with the main issues related to remote instrument control such as remote monitoring and troubleshooting, data collection, remote connections, IT concerns, and automation of laboratory procedures. The Remote instrument control expert group will also answer some main interrogations such as How remote access is performed in each domain? What are the instruments involved, solutions, software’s? How the safety of the control in ensured, authentication verification? and many more.
Expert Group V - International access and accessibility of RI services
This expert group on International access and accessibility of RI services will identify common barriers and accessibility issues. Subsequently, solutions will be discussed and best practices collected with suggestions on how those can be translated to other domains and regions.
These groups will meet regularly throughout 2023 and will bring together people with expertise and experience in the field of remote access to share their knowledge. The aim is to contribute both to the eRImote collection of useful tools and practices on remote access to research infrastructures, and to give input to the policy recommendations to be developed.
We are now reaching out to experts in the field of remote access as well as end users to express their interest in participating in these expert groups. The groups are open to everyone and we strongly encourage participation particularly from Research Infrastructures and core facility staff and service providers, across all domains of research.
If you would like to contribute your knowledge and experience to the Remote Access community, please do not hesitate to express your interest by filling this form. The group organisers will reach out to you with further details.
