NEXT
FIELD DAY (FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2024)
Our next field day will be
hosted by Mississippi State University at its North Farm and cover topics of great importance
to smaller-scale farmers. “Presentations,
Demonstrations, and Group Discussions will Focus on Eleven (11) Specialty Crops:
Blueberries, Raspberries, Peas, Peppers, Strawberries, Micro Greens, Centella (Gotu Kola), Teas, Jumbo Peanuts, Turmeric, and Ginger.”
Small scale farmers can
benefit significantly from agricultural diversification. The benefits include: reduced risk, increased
income, improved soil health, improved food security, and environmental
benefits. However, agricultural
diversification also poses challenges for small-scale farmers, including lack
of resources, limited market access, technical know-how, and climate change. The Alliance and its partners can play a
critical role in supporting small-scale farmers in diversifying their farms by
providing access to research, market information, technology, training,
extension services, and financing. By
addressing these challenges, agricultural diversification can help to enhance
the resilience of small-scale farmers and promote sustainable agriculture.
