Canon Law states that one sponsor, male or female, is sufficient, but there may be two sponsors, one of each gender. According to Canon Law, sponsors must be a least 16 years old, confirmed, and be leading a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on.

Canon Law states that a baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community may be admitted only in company with a Catholic sponsor, and then simply as a witness to the baptism. The person must be the opposite gender of the Catholic godparent.

Please note that before the baptism date is scheduled, the family needs to be registered with St. John Paul II Catholic Church or have their parish pastor's permission for the child to be baptized by a minister of the parish.
