SEMINAR ON THE LAW AND DOING BUSINESS IN CAMBODIA
INAUGURAL SEMINAR ON: THE LAW AND DOING BUSINESS - CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN CAMBODIA AGAINST A DEVELOPING LEGAL SYSTEM

Cambodia is in the midst of significant economic growth. Cambodia’s economy has sustained an average growth rate of 7.7% between 1995 and 2018, making it among the fastest-growing economies in the world. This growth has been supported by strong garments and tourism sectors, but strides in real estate development, consumer demand and infrastructure have further contributed to Cambodia’s growth story, and have resulted in significant investment flows from its ASEAN and non-ASEAN neighbors, particularly, China and Singapore.

This rapid development has resulted in changes to the on-shore legal and regulatory environment, where laws have had to deal with transaction structures that have not been tested under Cambodia still-developing legal system. The result – as has been the case in other rapidly developing economies – is a legal environment that has needed to catch up with prevailing economic realities.

In this half-day seminar, lawyers from Kelvin Chia Partnership will speak about investment and business laws in Cambodia, and how these laws can affect how persons do business in this jurisdiction. Discussing a wide range of topics from business establishment, cross-border structures, banking and employment, this seminar hopes to provide the participant with a better appreciation of the requirements needed to comply with applicable Cambodia law, the opportunities, challenges and difficulties of establishing and engaging in business in Cambodia, and the direction that the legal environment is set to take in the near to mid-term.
