Item LV#1: Sally Veach: Vetus Agri 49 - No longer accepting pre-bids, see you on Saturday!
May 2021: Framed oil on linen panel, 24 x 30 in

"Vetus Agri means 'old fields' in Latin. During 2020, in the time of isolation due to Covid-19, the Vetus Agri project was how I found solace and restoration in the hills surrounding our mountain cabin near Old Fields, WV. Nature has always been my primary source of spiritual peace and is a common theme that runs through all my art.

In Vetus Agri 49, I am fascinated with the phenomenon of atmospheric perspective and the effects of light and foliage and mud from a newly plowed field after a rain. A small, old barn reflects light from its hipped roof among the encroaching woods. This work has begun en plein air and completed in studio."

Sally Veach is a painter practicing in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. She explores the restorative effects of the local landscape, the power of nature, and the heritage of her community and family, while connecting these subjects to global issues. She conducted an inquiry into human's place in nature through the history of the Germanic settlers who migrated to the Shenandoah Valley in the 1700's. Her ancestors' experience as indentured farmers informs the body of work, Barns of the Shenandoah, a conceptual series of paintings that draws on the area's deteriorating historic barns.

She has been awarded residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Weir Farm National Historic Monument, and Lodestar School of Art.
