SMSP Teaching and Mentorship Opportunities
We invite all undergraduate and graduate students to consider opportunities to teach and mentor others at SMSP. Teaching opportunities include a variety of catechism programs where you can share your faith with the youth of our parish, as well as the opportunity to teach English to non-native speakers through the English as a Second Language Program.

Opportunities for teaching are in the following areas:
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD-One Sunday each month you will prepare a liturgical celebration for a small group of children that takes place during the 10:00 AM Sunday mass. Materials are provided.

FAMILY FAITH FORMATION-One Sunday each month (October – April) you will instruct a grade specific group of children in the foundations of our faith. Class time will include prayer, instruction, and community building. We will also gather for monthly training dinners (September-March) with fellow catechists.

TEEN CONFIRMATION-Two Sundays each month 3:15-4:45 PM you will attend the confirmation class and assist in small group facilitation with occasional presentations and prayer planning. Catechists gather at 2:15pm on teaching dates to pray and review the session lesson plan.

HISPANIC/LATINO CATECHISM PROGRAM-Two Sundays each month 3:15 – 4:45 PM you will instruct a grade specific group of children in the foundations of our faith. Class time will include prayer, instruction, and community building. Spanish language skills are helpful but not required. Some lesson planning time required outside of class time.

HISPANIC/LATINO MINISTRY CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD-One Sunday each month you will prepare a liturgical celebration for a small group of children that takes place during the 2:00 PM Sunday mass. Beginner Spanish skills are requested.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE PROGRAM- Every Sunday from 12:45-1:45PM, but the level of commitment is flexible. You will use the time each week to work one-on-one with adults that want to practice their English skills. Minimal lesson planning time required outside of class time. While moderate proficiency in Spanish is preferred, it is not required.
