Algebra in Motion Returning Volunteer Application

This application is for people who have tutored in our program previously.

Application Deadline: Friday, September 25th at 11:59pm

If you are unable to make this deadline, please let us know right away. Tell us then when you can have it in by.
Submitting this application sooner rather than later will be helpful, but please wait to submit until you know your availability. After you have submitted your application, please let us know immediately if your availability changes.
You will hear back from us on your schedule on Saturday, September 26th.

New this year, we will be having a longer (and very informative!) training for all volunteers on Sunday, September 27th, which is mandatory for all volunteers. The training will take place from around 11am - 2pm (exact time and location TBD). Please note in the application if you already know you will be unable to attend for any reason.

Volunteers will also be required to attend our All-Hope training, which has yet to be scheduled.

Tutoring will begin the week of Monday, October 5th.

If you know anyone new who you think should apply, please direct them to our website at algebrainmotion.wordpress.com

    Availability

Our program consists of the following segments: After School Drop-in Tutoring and In-Class Tutoring. Read below to learn more about each part! After School Drop-in Tutoring: Volunteer tutors staff the tutoring room at Hope and are paired with students on a day-to-day basis. The students generally come in on days when they need help with a specific assignment and they can bring in homework and questions from any math or science class. Usually students and tutors work one-on-one, but when more students than tutors show up we break into groups based on what they are working on. In-Class Tutoring: In-Class tutors help out as directed by their teachers, usually through working with small groups of students who are either ahead of or behind the rest of the class. Generally, in-class tutors attend their class period twice a week, enabling them to become an integral part of the class experience and form close working relationships with the lead teacher and the students. Hope class periods are 80 minutes long most days. In-class tutors need to be especially flexible and respectful of the teacher's directions and the school's procedures. Even if you are interested in multiple parts of the program, we will place you in only one part unless you specify in the "What specific requests do you have involving your scheduling?" section that you would like to be involved in more than one area at once this semester. We will try our best to accommodate your requests, but the more available you are, the more likely it is that we will find a spot for you. For example, many tutors want to tutor on Fridays. If that is the only day you list on your availability, we are much less likely to find a spot for you.
