âś…Â What to Include
We encourage displays that are family-friendly and age-appropriate and interactive when possible (games, hands-on items, visuals, etc.) and focused on:
- Cultural traditions (food, holidays, clothing, music, language)
- Family backgrounds and heritage
- Hobbies, passions, and talents
- Community experiences or meaningful traditions
🧠 Keep It Kid-Friendly: Think: “What would help a 5–10 year old understand and appreciate this?”
- Use simple language and visuals when possible
- Avoid mature or sensitive topics that may be difficult for young children
- Be mindful that students will be exploring independently
🍪 Food/Drinks (if applicable): Clearly label allergens if offering samples
🤝 Respect & Representation
- Share your own experiences and perspectives—you are the expert on your story
- Be respectful when representing cultures, especially those outside your own
🏫 School Expectations - All displays must align with:
- Public school standards for inclusivity and neutrality
- District policies and guidelines
🚫 Do No Harm - To keep the event welcoming for everyone please avoid:
- “Speaking for” an entire group—focus on your family’s experience
- Stereotypes or generalizations about any group
- Content that diminishes others or could be considered harmful, graphic, or divisive
- Proselytizing or attempts to persuade others to adopt specific beliefs
✨ Final Thought: This night is about learning from each other and celebrating what makes us unique while remembering that we all belong here together
