Dr. Montgomery is a plant biochemist, writer, and scholar who focuses on how individuals perceive, respond to, and are impacted by the environments in which they exist; this theme unites her research passions with her efforts for systemic change in mentoring and leadership. Her research program focuses on how photosynthetic organisms (plants and cyanobacteria) respond and adapt to external light cues. She has translated the ‘individuals and environment’ theme to establishing best practices in mentoring of faculty and students and the role of innovative leaders in supporting success in academic environments.
