Did you know that Massachusetts is the only state in the United States that has a state and locally-funded means-tested cash assistance (and medical assistance) for low income veterans, their dependents including in some cases, their parents? Did you know that this monthly cash assistance benefit can often be 2 to 4 times higher than TAFDC or EAEDC cash benefits administered by DTA, depending on the veterans shelter costs?
For veterans or dependents with NO income, this can be a lifeline program. Chapter 115 Veterans Services benefits can also supplement a veteran's Unemployment Comp, federal VA Benefits, Social Security or other income that is lower than the veteran is qualified to receive. And Chapter 115 Vets Services benefits can also pay up to 4 months of rent arrears as well as help veterans with medical expenses!
SNAP Coalition members and other partners are welcome to attend this 1 hour free webinar on Thursday, January 14th, from 10 to 11 AM. Hosted by MLRI, the presentation will be from our colleagues at Veterans Legal Services.
During this training you will learn 1) the nuts and bolts of Chapter 115 Vets Services benefits, 2) how veterans and dependents can apply for these benefits, 3) how to use the fantastic Veterans Benefits Calculator
https://massvetben.org/ and 4) where to refer veterans and their dependents denied these critical lifeline benefits!
