PETITION: Pres. Beilock, stop discriminating against unionized faculty in First Year Seminar!
ALL Barnard faculty—from the lowest-paid adjunct to the highest-paid tenured prof— have ALWAYS received an equal extra stipend for teaching FYS. But when the lowest-paid most-exploited faculty formed our union (Barnard Contingent Faculty-UAW Local 2110), the Barnard admin without warning withheld the stipend from us and us only. When we asked “Why?” the Provost said “Because we can.” We disagree and we’re fighting this anti-union discrimination!

Dear President Sian Beilock,
Dear Provost Linda Bell,
We the undersigned ask you to stop discriminating against those Barnard College faculty that formed a union (Barnard Contingent Faculty-UAW Local 2110) and to restore to them the FYS stipend that (before they unionized) was always given in an equal amount to all Barnard faculty regardless of rank. Supporting unions is one important component of upholding Barnard's commitment to social justice and the current denial of the FYS stipend risks tarnishing Barnard's image. We stand with faculty and demand that our College always move towards equity, not away from it.
