There is a rare solar occurrence happening this Tuesday, June 5
Venus will cross the path between the earth and the sun, which means you can see the shape of venus on the face of the sun with the proper equipment. This only occurs twice per century and the next time it happens will be in 2117! The event has scientific signifigance and helped determine the circumference of the earth in the 1760s fairly accurately - all will be explained to those coming!
Venus begins its transit at 6:04 PM and its visible till sunset. I will be hosting a 'viewing party' with the proper gear for folks to watch this at an excellent location, the High Line Park. It has some nice sections where you can see the sun setting over the hudson....see below for details!
After the viewing ends, I will give a short tour of the park, walking up from the viewing location to the end of the park at west 30th and 10th.We should end by 7:30 or so. You can just show up without RSVP'ing, but if possible please RSVP so we have a sense of numbers.
