Short Story Writing Contest hosted by the North Logan Library and the Storyboard Podcast

North Logan Library and the Friends of North Logan Library have teamed up with Storyboard podcast to host a writing competition for grades 6-12 students in Cache Valley. Grades 6-8 (ages 12 - 14) and grades 9-12 (ages 15-18) will be judged separately. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be presented for each age group. Winners will be selected by judges, including local authors Bethany Wiggins and Tyler Whitesides.

Stories of any genre are welcome. The Storyboard podcast loves fiction, sci-fi/fantasy, and anything that takes people to fantastical places. Please send your short stories!

Top stories will be featured on the Storyboard podcast and read aloud by local voice actor Jameson Smith.

A suggested theme for submissions is “Oh, the Places You'll Go!” in honor of Dr. Seuss's Birthday, March 2. However, you may write on any theme or subject.

Submission guidelines:
Pieces should be submitted no later than Jan. 31, 2019 to with authors real name (no pseudonyms), grade, school, and email contact on the first page, top left corner.
Creative writing projects of any genre are welcome.
Limit for all genres is 2,000 words, double-spaced, 12 pt. font.
Stories should be stand alone, not single chapters of a longer work.
Entries can be fantasy, sci-fi, flash-fiction, historical fiction, fiction, or a non-fiction and suitable for audiences of all ages.
Stories can feature characters of any age.

Fictional piece winners will be featured on the Storyboard podcast.

One true life story of 1,500 words or less, 12 pt. font, could also be featured in the Herald Journal. The Herald Journal will review the top non-fiction entry for publication in the paper. *Note this category is also eligible for overall prizes.

Entries are due starting November 15, 2018, no later than January 31, 2019.

Competition winners will be announced Feb. 22, 2019 on the Storyboard podcast and the North Logan Library Website. Winners will be posted in the display case at the North Logan Library.

Awards will be presented at a party March 1 at the North Logan Library at 6 pm.

All entrants are encouraged to attend the awards party, where there will be drawings for free books and other prizes.
