Note on eligibility:
You must be at least 18 years old and be entitled to work in the UK. You are required to provide two referees who will be contacted as part of our Safe Recruitment process. You must live in the location of the sewing session or have a strong connection to. The sewing session location will be considered your place of work.
Some people are disqualified by law from working in the UK. We will require to see proof of your eligibility to work in the UK before offering you any work.
As our Sewing Session Assistant you would be required to work alongside the hub leader:
- providing a welcoming and loving atmosphere.
- lending out sewing equipment and ensure its safe return.
- monitoring and reminding people of safe practices.
- encouraging people to engage in conversations and activities.
- liaising with local volunteers to promote the sewing sessions.
- providing technical sewing support to participants as required.
- in a way that honours and respects the charity's Christian values and ethos.
Our charitable goal is 'the relief of financial hardship anywhere in the world by providing sewing equipment, training and support to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be self-sufficient and to do so using Christian values and for the public benefit.'
The trustee team holds responsibility for shaping the culture and setting the direction of the charity, which includes upholding our foundational commitment to Christian values. This means there is an occupational requirement in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 for the post-holder to be a practising Christian.
Skills and qualifications:
- a friendly and personable disposition with a focus on hospitality.
- good English communication skills.
- a minimum basic understanding of sewing and use of domestic sewing equipment.

The staff team holds responsibility for shaping the culture and setting the direction of the charity, which includes upholding our foundational commitment to Christian values, including the engagement in open prayer before and after each session.
This post is a temporary contract, set at £46 per session (3hrs). Holiday pay and pension contributions are included as part of this sum: no further payment or provision is given above this set amount.
You will live locally (or have a strong connection) to sewing hub post you are applying for. Sewing sessions are open for 2 hrs, with assistants asked to attend 30 minutes before and after for set up and close.
Where possible, suitable candidates are encouraged to attend a sewing session as a participant so they can make their application having experienced the session and have some understanding of the activities and atmosphere we are aiming to provide.
Interviews will be arranged at a mutually convenient time.
