Advanced SJLI:                                          School Registration
Thank you for your interest in registering a cohort at the winter 2026 Advanced Social Justice Leadership Institute! This intensive program invites 9th - 12th grade student community leaders into a peer network to practice actionable skills for racial and social justice on campus. Students reflect on racial, economic, gender and queer justice personally and systemically. Students develop skills around leading popular education workshops, conducting power analysis, facilitating strategic action planning, and grounding justice work in collective care. This program is an opportunity for student leaders at New England independent high schools to build community with like-minded young leaders who share their passion for social justice. Our experienced staff team of popular educators support students to learn, connect, and act towards a more just world.

The Advanced SJLI runs from 9AM - 7PM on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA. Meals and snacks provided on site. Given the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, students will be asked to present a negative rapid test morning of the retreat, and to mask throughout the session.

Please complete this form if you would like to reserve a spot for your school's cohort.

This program is designed for students who have prior experience and excitement around social justice work, including those who have already completed the two-day Introductory SJLI program or the one-day Advanced SJLI program, or who have equivalent social justice leadership experience. Interest in the following: political education, popular education, community centered justice practices, building cross racial solidarity or intersectional racial affinity work, means the program would be a good fit for a prospective student.

Participants must be willing to engage in a race-explicit space that challenges power and privilege based on race, and to reflect on and talk about their experiences of power and privilege and oppression based on race. SJLI supports non-Black young people of color and white young people to be accountable around non-Black privilege.

Early Bird registration is $425.00/student participant. To secure the Early Bird rate, you will need to complete this form by January 7th, 2026. Regular registration is $450.00/student participant and closes February 10th, 2026.

Please reach out to Tara or Cynthia with any questions at tara@thecityschool.org or cynthia@thecityschool.org. We look forward to working with you and your students.
