Since 2015, members of Portland's breast cancer survivor dragon boat team have invited local medical providers to experience for themselves the full-body workout and camaraderie teammates enjoy three times a week, rain or shine. Please join us to find out more about dragon boating so you can make an informed decision about recommending it to patients in the future.
WHAT TO EXPECTWe provide guests with life vests and paddles. After check-in, you'll participate in our dryland warmup routine and then proceed to the RiverPlace Marina for orientation and safety instructions. We'll push off from the dock and travel south to the new Tillikum Bridge before coming back to the marina. It's going to be fun!
CELEBRATING TRACIThe late Traci Van Dyken was the first captain of our outreach program. When her oncologist was reluctant to let her continue paddling during her treatment, she struggled to convincingly explain the happiness and benefits she experienced from dragon boating. What, she wondered, if we brought our doctors and other health care providers aboard? We lost Traci to breast cancer in February 2017 and "Paddle With The Pinks" is part of her legacy.
