2019 Youth Council Application
The Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation (AAACF) Youth Council brings together 25 students from Washtenaw County public, private, and independent high schools to provide a unique opportunity for youth to make a meaningful impact in the community through grantmaking and service. The Youth Council is designed to enhance the decision making skills of young people, provide a safe space to assess and determine the most urgent concerns of Washtenaw County youth, and to develop leadership skills and a love of philanthropy at an early age.

To apply for a position on the Youth Council students must be entering 9th, 10th or 11th grade in the fall of 2019 AND be attending a high school in Washtenaw County. This year seven new members will be selected to fill the positions of the seniors who graduated in the spring.

The position begins the year in which a student is selected to serve on the Youth Council and extends until the student graduates from high school, no longer attends high school in Washtenaw County OR elects to leave the committee.

Responsibilities include the following:
• Attend monthly meetings at the Community Foundation Office in downtown Ann Arbor
• Participate in foundation wide events as needed
• Attend site-visits, team building activities, and volunteering opportunities
• Review, score (online), and provide insight into between 20-30 grant applications each year

Mandatory meetings are held on Sunday one to two times a month from September through May and range in length from 3- 8 hours. In addition, during the grant review period in February, members spend approximately 15-20 hours outside of the scheduled meeting reviewing, scoring and providing feedback on grant applications. Volunteer opportunities, site-visits, and other Youth Council related activities are scheduled at various times during the school week.

If getting to any events related to the Youth Council is an issue, transportation will be covered by AAACF.

Interviews will be held on Saturday, September 21 or Sunday, September 22. Interview times are assigned by the committee and cannot be moved/rescheduled.
