The Granite Board of Education requested a review of workday hours to align with neighboring districts, leading Granite School District (GSD) and Granite Education Association (GEA) to form a joint 8-Hour Workday Task Force as part of the spring 2025 negotiations. The group is charged with studying the implications of an 8-hour workday and bringing recommendations forward before spring 2026 negotiations.
As part of their work, the task force is gathering data from teachers (anyone on the teacher salary schedule) and administrators. Data will be collected through surveys, focus groups, and town halls. Information collected through this survey is anonymous. At the end of this survey, you will have a chance to indicate your interest in participating in the focus groups and will be redirected to a form to submit your name and contact information. The scheduling of the town halls will be advertised at a later time.
We appreciate the many questions, comments, and suggestions we have received. An FAQ was created to share updates, provide clarity, and answer common questions as the process moves forward. It will be updated as new questions arise, and your input will continue to guide the work. FAQ: 8-Hour Workday Task Force
What is the definition of an 8-hour workday?
For exempt employees (i.e., teachers, specialists, etc.), the "workday" is based on a standard 8-hour day that includes a 30-minute, duty-free lunch.
This definition is regarding time at work, not the workload. This does not change the amount of student instruction time.
