The main goal of this the EMB Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP Network Forum) is to boost the engagement of ECOPs from the EMB member organizations in the European
marine science-policy landscape. Therefore, this forum will offer training and
networking opportunities with experts in the field. After the forum, the outcomes and discussions will be summarized in a report and recommendations will be made on how ECOPs can be better included and can better participate in the European science-policy landscape as a key stakeholder group. The forum will be separated into several section, each addressing current needs of ECOPs in the framework of the marine science-policy interface, which includes:
1) Training ECOPS
Learn about the roles and actions of the EMB;
Crash course on the science-policy landscape and ways for ECOPs to engage: the
functioning of EU institutions, main marine policy instruments, current
discussions on marine policies, and learning about tools to better communicate
science to policy-makers.
2) Networking opportunities
Dialogue between ECOPs and stakeholders, including policy-makers;
Informal networking activities for ECOPs.
3) Mobilize ECOPs to propose guidelines for their inclusion in the science-policy
landscape.
