What is Pi?
Founded in 1946, Pi Media has spent over 70 years creating award-winning content for the student population of University College London, and we are still going strong. Initially launched as a newspaper, we now primarily dedicate ourselves between three outlets: Pi Online, Pi Magazine and PiTV. What are we looking for?
This year we will be re-structuring to create the following six sections, each with a variety of sub-sections. We are recruiting three editors for each section listed below.
News Reporting on student news, local news and providing sports coverage.
OpinionCommentary on politics (student, UK and world), home of columnists and letters.
FeaturesLonger, in-depth pieces on a variety of topics as well as interviews and investigations.
Science Features across the life sciences, environment and technology, as well as reporting on UCL based research.
Lifestyle Sub-sections include student life, mental health, wellbeing, food, travel.
CultureReviews and commentary on books, film, TV, music, theatre and exhibitions.
What will your role involve?
Your job as an editor involves but is not limited to the following:- Recruiting a team of core writers and tasking each one with turning in an article every week or fortnight- Editing articles - Uploading articles to Wordpress- Briefing the design team for images and illustrations to accompany articles- Editing any one-off submissions- Leading meetings with the core team and brainstorming content ideas - Regularly communicating with other editors and committee members to ensure we all coordinate with upcoming content- Getting involved with socials and events and providing a general contribution to Pi as a society
How do you apply?
Please complete this application form, involving six questions and a short editing task. Experience of writing or editing is beneficial but not a necessity. Above all, we’re looking for enthusiastic and committed students who have a genuine interest in the media.
