Team Kween Cycling is an amateur cycling team focused on increasing the visibility and participation of women, trans, and femme (WTF) athletes, queer athletes, athletes of color, and working cyclists in bike racing. We want more a more diverse peleton – and we know that if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.
Team Kween is one of a handful of young cycling teams making sure historically under-represented athletes in NYC have the space and support they need to achieve their athletic ambitions. Anchored in Kween Kargo Bike Shop, a women and POC owned, queer friendly shop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, we come together to train hard, support one another, and shatter presumptions. Team Kween is a multi-discipline cycling team open to riders of all genders, ethnicities and ages, with most racers entering women's categories in track and cyclocross races: we provide the framework for each member to excel at the kind racing they dream about.
Team Kween is a good fit for self-motivated individuals seeking out new challenges. We are an amateur team, so our only "expectation" is that you show up, race, and be supportive of your teammates and our community! We will not be holding try-outs, just a preliminary selection based off this survey followed by a meet & greet to inform a final selection. Please note that while we are opening club memberships to all genders, we still will prioritize women, femmes, trans women & men, and other gender-diverse expressions, and particularly those of color.
Induction to the team entitles you to an exclusive tier of discounts on service labor & gear from Kween Kargo Bike Shop in Greenpoint Brooklyn, and a ride from there to the velodrome every Wednesday for the Twilight Series. For now we ask team riders to pay for their kits & skinsuits, but we aim to offset those costs through fundraising. We are also in search of more sponsors, so stay tuned!
This form is about us getting to know you, but you should also think of this as an opportunity to get to know us!
