Meetinghouse Mosaic supports artists from around the world who paint inclusive religious artwork in their personal style or from their unique cultural lens. At this time, however, we acknowledge a gap between some artwork and current LDS church guidelines for building artwork. If you lean towards wanting to learn a more realistic or naturalistic style of painting, not abstract, and want to create inclusive religious artwork for churches, meetinghouses, and places of worship, this scholarship might be a good fit for your interests. Here is a brief description of current church artwork guidelines:
Building artwork should create a spiritual, reverent atmosphere. The artwork should be of high artistic quality and depict the life and images of Christ and His ministry with dignity and reverence. It should teach gospel principles with clarity through easily recognizable illustrations of the scriptures, and portray meaningful aspects of the Restoration of the gospel and the History and heritage of the Church. It should also reflect gospel-centered values and lifestyle. (source)
We are hoping to find artists that want to submit artwork to the church for official LDS meetinghouse use, and hope our scholarship can be used to help artists build skill and training in styles that bridge any gaps and empower them to meet LDS church artwork requirements. With this scholarship, we hope to flood the christian community with more representation in scriptural artwork, more inclusive depictions of Christ, and faith-promoting moments in christian or restored church history. If you are interested in applying for this scholarship, you are agreeing that you have a desire to build artistic skills that help you meet church and meetinghouse guidelines for artwork.
A recipient of Meetinghouse Mosaic Artist Scholarships would be a BIPOC/Person of the Global Majority artist of any skill level--you do not need to be a beginning artist--who is interested in contributing inclusive religious artwork to Christian homes or meetinghouses and would like financial support in making that goal happen. You do not need to be LDS to apply for or receive this scholarship; we encourage any artist with an interest in creating faith-promoting inclusive Christian artwork to apply. in 2025, we are hoping to offer 5 artists who qualify for a scholarship of $200-$500 each.
