Preparing for TABE
TABE stands for “Test of Adult Basic Education.”
TABE is a standardized test used by many technical colleges and trade schools. For all programs at Emily Griffith Technical College you will take the TABE Reading. For certain programs you will also take the TABE Math. At Emily Griffith Technical College, the TABE is also used to place GED and Adult Education students in the appropriate level class.
TABE Reading measures ability to understand and interpret different types of reading passages.
TABE Reading Sample Question
TABE Math includes two sections: computation and application.
A calculator is not allowed. Scratch paper is provided.
TABE Math Computation measures the core skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, and integers.
TABE Math Computation Sample Questions
TABE Applied Mathematics includes questions based on everyday activities, such as household budgets, recipes, repair tasks, and comparison shopping.
TABE Applied Math Sample Question
It is important to prepare for the TABE so that your score reflects your true abilities. Know which test(s) you need to prepare for since all programs require the TABE Reading and only certain programs require TABE Math. The Practical Nursing Program requires a program-specific math test--not the TABE.
