Organizations meeting the criteria in either of the following categories are invited to apply for NYCVOAD membership.  

Full Membership – Voting Member:

- Nonprofit in good standing under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code OR any organization that does not have tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of the United States but (i) has a not-for-profit structure and/or otherwise operates on a not-for-profit basis, (ii) has a role in disaster or emergency response and/or recovery and a stated policy of commitment of resources, without discrimination, to meet the needs of individuals living or working in New York City or the surrounding areas, and (iii) otherwise meets the criteria for Full Membership.
- Actively participates in fulfilling the NYCVOAD mission and principles to meet the need of people affected by disasters/emergencies in New York City (NYC) and/or surrounding areas
- Service jurisdiction includes all or part of NYC
- Represented at regularly scheduled NYCVOAD meetings (at least 4 per fiscal year Oct 1 – Sept 30)
- Represented and participates on at least one committee/working group during Full Membership status
- Abides by NVOAD Points of Consensus
- Stated policy of nondiscrimination

Partner - Non-Voting Member:

- Any not-for-profit organization with an interest or role in disaster or emergency planning but does not qualify for full membership
- Service jurisdiction includes all or part of NYC
- Actively participates in fulfilling the NYCVOAD mission and principles to meet the needs of people affected by disasters/emergencies in NYC and/or surrounding areas
- Abides by NVOAD Points of Consensus  
- Stated policy of nondiscrimination


Notes:

1) Member organizations are entitled and encouraged to have more than one representative participating in meetings, committees, working groups, and other activities. It must be noted, however, that member organizations (including NYC groups w/ multiple branches or chapters) receive only one vote regardless of how many representatives participate in NYCVOAD activities. Mailings will be sent to the primary contact and may be duplicated for internal distribution.  

2)  Any organization that is a full member in good standing with National VOAD and/or NY VOAD may apply for full membership with NYCVOAD under an expedited process. Upon submission of a completed application and dues, a National VOAD and/or NY VOAD member is automatically granted membership status. The Board may, however, at its discretion, vote within 14 calendar days to decline said application.

Dues will be collected annually during the first quarter of the fiscal year (Oct 1 - Dec 31) after the initial payment w/ this application. If membership begins during/after the third quarter (Apr 1 - Jun 30), dues will be counted for the next immediate fiscal year (Oct 1 - Sept 30).

1. Complete all required portions of the below application.
2. Provide or share link to all needed supporting documents as outlined at the end of the application. * Applications will not be considered until all supporting documents are received.  There is a 3-month window to provide all supporting documents. *
3. Completed applications, with all supporting documents provided, will be reviewed and voted on by the NYCVOAD Board of Directors at its next scheduled Board meeting.
4. If approved, applying organization will be notified of this decision, and provided billing contact will receive a dues invoice, if applicable.
5. If denied, applying organization will be notified of this decision w/ reasoning provided, and will have 60 days to respond to this decision.
