Digital Content Editor Internship

The 1947 Partition Archive is now accepting applications for our internships program. We seek bright and enthusiastic interns interested in gaining field experience. We currently have positions available in several fields, one of which is listed below. Applicants should be serious, highly motivated and have the necessary experience as listed below. Interns will be paired with an experienced mentor in their area of concentration.

At present, we only offer unpaid volunteer internships, intended for the applicant to gain field experience. Interns are encouraged to seek course credit through their colleges or universities.

Interns will receive relevant training, fieldwork experience as well as a guaranteed reference. References will only be provided to those who satisfactorily complete their internship term. Experience or knowledge in South Asian studies is not necessary, however we do require some task specific experience for certain positions.

    Job Description

    FOCUS: Content Editing o Learn advanced editorial skills for publishing sensitive content, especially witness narratives o Copy-edit and curate ​incredible life stories for publishing o Assist in developing strategic program for publishing to digital media sites

    Job Requirements

    o Excellent written skills o Copy editing skills preferred but not required o Working knowledge and some previous experience of web/social media especially Twitter and Facebook o Strong passion for preserving history and raising awareness for Partition stories

    Internship Time Period

    SIX MONTH POSITION: Intern needs to commit a minimum of 10 hours each week. Minimum 6 months commitment. TWO MONTH POSITION: Intern needs to commit 30 hours a week, for 8 weeks.

    Internship Expectations

    The 1947 Partition Archive’s social media presence attracts high traffic and thus requires sophisticated management. Only serious interns may apply for this position. Interns are expected to develop ownership of their projects and encouraged to develop creative solutions. Intern must have a strong passion for and dedication to our mission and goals. Interns will receive relevant training, fieldwork experience as well as guaranteed references for those who complete their internship term. Successful interns, at the end of their tenure, will be considered for any paid positions that may be available. Interns may apply for academic credit or funding through their college or university. All interns will be working at our downtown Berkeley office.
