In an effort to streamline our volunteer program, and rising venue costs, we've revamped our volunteer program quite a bit.
Anyone interested in volunteering for Epic Nerd Camp must be aware of the following policies.
Please read them carefully and contact us at Adventure@EpicNerdCamp.com if you have any questions that are not answered here or in the Volunteer FAQ section on our website.
HOW IT WORKS- The venue has set the per/head fee for food and lodging for our volunteers such that it's become necessary for volunteers to cover their own food/lodging costs (which is standard for volunteering at events). Volunteer Registration for 2018 is $299. This covers the cost of your lodging and food while at ENC (including the day before camp: Tuesday, August 14th), as well as a volunteer t-shirt, badge, and wristband. Standard Volunteer- Unless otherwise specified, volunteers will be assigned up to a maximum of three activity periods per day of the session.Non-standard Volunteer- These positions may require work outside the week of the event, and are handled case-by-case. We're not assholes, so we'll work out something fair.
FIRST YEAR VOLUNTEERS- As per usual, first year volunteers will be asked to purchase a Camper Registration $599 (or Pre-Registration $499) Badge. After successful completion of your volunteer commitments, you will be reimbursed the difference between $299 and your paid registration fee after the conclusion of camp. This system discourages people from signing up to volunteer, collecting their badge, then neglecting to fulfill their volunteer commitments.
RETURNING VOLUNTEERS- Returning volunteers will have access to the Volunteer Registration Badge for $299.
THINGS TO KNOWUnless otherwise specified, you are expected to arrive at the venue the day before camp starts: Tuesday, August 14th (the earlier in the day, the better) and to stay until noonish on Sunday, August 19th.
All volunteers must wear their Epic Nerd Camp badge while in the camp or working/participating in activities. This will set a good example for campers, who are also required to wear their badge at all times.
All volunteers should wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Please refrain from wearing torn or dirty clothing. You’ll be provided with one ENC volunteer t-shirt, which should be worn while on duty. Additional t-shirts for returning volunteers will be available at cost (TBA). Going forward, first year volunteers will receive “red shirts” which can only be worn during your first year, so you’ll probably only want one. Comfortable walking shoes are best, as most volunteers will be standing or walking a great deal during the day.
Please do not use your cell phone excessively while on duty.
We ask all volunteers to act in the best interest of Epic Nerd Camp by respecting campers, fellow volunteers and staff, as well as promoting a safe and healthy environment.
You are welcome to volunteer your time outside of assigned hours, but your food/lodging costs will remain the same.
Volunteers must refrain from any deliberate acts that may create a dangerous or unhealthy situation during Epic Nerd Camp. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of illegal drugs, excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages; and assaulting, threatening or disregarding the safety (or perceived safety) of an individual.
We have a zero tolerance policy against harassment of any kind. Violation of this policy will result in badge revocation and removal from our programs without reimbursement.
