SURVEY #2 (AUGUST 9TH – AUGUST 13TH)
The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) has granted its preliminary FY21-22 funding to Jal Public Schools through the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act; Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER III). The funds are to help the school return safely to in-person instruction, maximize in-person instructional time, sustain the safe operation of schools and address the academic, social, emotional, and mental health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on NM students. The award amount reflects 2/3 of the ARP preliminary award in the amount of $405,699.88. Of this amount 20% or $81,139.98 must be allocated to learning loss such through the implementation of evidence-based interventions and ensure that those interventions respond to students’ social, emotional, and academic needs and address the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on underrepresented student subgroups (each major racial and ethnic group, children from low-income families, children with disabilities, English learners, gender, migrant students, students experiencing homelessness, and children and youth in foster care). The remaining amount of $324,559.91 can be allocated to other allowable uses such as distribution of digital devices and home internet connectivity, professional development, improving indoor air quality, personal protective equipment, etc.
As part of the application requirement, the Jal Public Schools is seeking the opportunity for the community to provide input in the development of its plan to meet the academic needs of the students and parents.
