We need neighbors, artists, and pedestrians to give their input for a newly designed Reading Gateway Bridge. This is the bridge located by Reading's Riverfront Park, near Reading Area Community College and connects to West Reading near Old Wyomissing Road.

Schuylkill River Greenways, the County of Berks, and our architects are going to ensure that no matter what, the redesign will improve safety and overall functionality. But we need to know what you want out of the bridge, how the experience should be, and what possibilities designers should pursue.

Bridge of Dreams: As people approach the bridge they are immediately met with a futuristic structure. Lighting on the bridge makes the structure clearly visible and attractive. It is a sleek design that blends human needs with tomorrow’s vision and precision. And though it is a clean and sharp aesthetic, it is not soulless. It is airy with unobstructed views of the world around it. The bridge invites people to stop, take a breath, take a selfie. El Puente de los Sueños: Al acercarse al puente, los visitantes se encuentran de inmediato con una estructura futurista. La iluminación del puente hace que la estructura sea claramente visible y atractiva. Se trata de un diseño elegante que combina las necesidades humanas con la visión y la precisión del futuro. Magic Garden Bridge: A vibrant and natural escape filled with flowers, small trees and a butterfly-friendly plants. The gentle sound of chimes bounces off of the dancing river below. The bridge has a low-impact glow illuminating the pathway. Colorful glass panels frame the views of the river. A central viewing space enhances the connection to the water. The bridge feels less like a manmade structure and more like something you would cross in a fantasy novel. Puente del Jardín Mágico: un refugio natural y lleno de vida, repleto de flores, arbolitos y plantas que atraen a las mariposas. El suave sonido de las campanas se refleja en el río que discurre danzante a sus pies. El puente cuenta con una iluminación tenue que ilumina el camino. Unos paneles de cristal de colores enmarcan las vistas del río. Un mirador central refuerza la conexión con el agua. El puente no parece tanto una estructura construida por el hombre como algo que uno cruzaría en una novela de fantasía.

The Open Book Bridge: As you approach you are welcomed with positive, empowering, loving messages. There is bountiful plant life and flowers along the sides of the trail leading into the bridge. As you cross the span you find poetry and art from local creators. It hints at the powerful traditions and current-day artistic innovations of Reading's diverse population. It is an unexpected burst of color and creativity that stands out proudly form the rest of the trail. This bridge tells the story of this city and its people. And a "little library' stops even the most dedicated runners to stop and check out what literature is waiting for them. El Puente Libro Abierto: Al acercarte, te reciben mensajes positivos, motivadores y llenos de amor. A lo largo de los laterales del sendero que conduce al puente hay una abundante vegetación y flores. Al cruzar el puente, te encuentras con poesía y arte de creadores locales. Es un guiño a las poderosas tradiciones y a las innovaciones artísticas actuales de la diversa población de Reading. Se trata de una inesperada explosión de color y creatividad que destaca con orgullo del resto del sendero. Este puente cuenta la historia de esta ciudad y de su gente. Y una "pequeña biblioteca" hace que incluso los corredores más dedicados se detengan para ver qué literatura les espera.

The Living Bridge: This is not just a span over a river, this is a space filled with action and attraction. The currently unused half of the bridge is converted into flexible community space where you could stop to have a picnic, see live performances, and connect with other people utilizing the space. Dynamic lighting creates an atmosphere that shifts between energetic and peaceful depending on the moment. This bridge isn’t something to solely to cross, but something to stop and enjoy the moment. El Puente Vivo: No se trata solo de un puente que cruza un río, sino de un espacio lleno de actividad y atractivo. La mitad del puente que actualmente no se utiliza se ha convertido en un espacio comunitario versátil donde uno puede detenerse para hacer un pícnic, ver actuaciones en directo y relacionarse con otras personas que disfrutan del lugar. La iluminación dinámica crea una atmósfera que oscila entre lo enérgico y lo tranquilo, según el momento. Este puente no es solo un lugar por el que cruzar, sino un lugar donde detenerse y disfrutar del momento.
