What is the Street Law DC Human Rights Act Mock Trial?
In partnership with DC Public Schools, the Georgetown Street Law practicum course trains Georgetown law students to teach fundamental legal principles, trial advocacy skills, and law in local high schools. The high school students present their skills and knowledge in two separate mock trials held over the school year, where they act as lawyers or witnesses. The mock trial competitions are more than law-related training; they make the justice system tangible and accessible while transforming the students' perceptions of fairness and justice.

The DC Human Rights Act Capstone Mock Trial is, for many students, their first significant advocacy experience. The students litigate a case based on the DC Human Rights Act. This year's case, Students for Justice v. Metro City Public Schools, raises issues of discrimination based on personal appearance, religion, and political affiliation.

For your convenience, we have included
(2) a copy of the judge's cheat sheet that you will use during your mock trial https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Hc8Cpzl4RXGS4ZWSmbnSWY_k0GERa0fx/edit#heading=h.gjdgxs

What: This is a great opportunity for volunteer lawyers and legal professionals to judge a mock trial(s). As a judge, your responsibilities will include keeping time, taking notes about the positive aspects of each student's performance, ruling on objections, rendering a verdict, and selecting a "Best Witness" and "Best Attorney" for each side. An orientation will be provided to share the basics of judging and to answer questions. The orientation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. for the morning round and from 1:00 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. for the afternoon round.

When: Wednesday, November 19, 2025. Round 1: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Round 2: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to judge one or both rounds.

Where: Georgetown University Capitol Campus at 111 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. 20001. The nearest metro stations are Judiciary Square and Union Station.

Participating High Schools: Anacostia, Banneker, Cardozo, Coolidge, Duke Ellington, Dunbar, Eastern, Jackson-Reed, MacArthur, Phelps-Ace, Roosevelt, and School Without Walls.
