Introducing the SAMSAT Legacy Innovation Awards.
To perpetuate David Monroe’s extraordinary legacy of curiosity-driven innovation, relentless entrepreneurship, preservation of technological history, and commitment to STEM education, SAMSAT proudly establishes the Legacy Innovation Awards in his honor. These awards celebrate individuals, teams, educators, students, organizations, and community leaders who embody the same pioneering spirit that defined David’s life: turning bold ideas into reality, bridging history and future technology, and inspiring others—especially young people—to pursue careers and passions in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).
David Monroe believed San Antonio deserved a world-class science and technology museum and education center. He built it with his own collection, expertise, and unwavering passion. The Legacy Innovation Awards ensure his story and values continue to spark curiosity, reward bold thinking, and open doors for tomorrow’s inventors and leaders.
Connection to SAMSAT’s Mission: These awards directly support SAMSAT’s goals of inspiring students and families, highlighting local and national innovation through its historic collection, and preparing the next generation of tech talent at AREA 21® and the David Monroe Education Center. Winners may be featured in museum exhibits, education programs, and annual events.

How the Awards Will Operate -- Eligibility: Open to individuals and organizations in the San Antonio region and beyond, with emphasis on those advancing STEAM education, invention, or technological progress.
Nomination Process: Annual open call via this form and at samsat.org, with nominations from the public, SAMSAT partners, educators, and industry leaders. A distinguished selection committee (including SAMSAT leadership, tech community members, and Monroe family representatives where appropriate) will review submissions.
Presentation: Awards presented at our signature annual gala on October 24th with media coverage, exhibit features and program support tied to winners.
Support the Legacy: Donations to SAMSAT help sustain our facility growth, the Monroe Scholars Program, education initiatives, and the growth of these awards. Every contribution sustain David’s vision.
