Mayor Byrd Survey on National Garden of American Heroes, Greenbelt Park
Long story short:

President Donald Trump may be bringing dozens of statues to Greenbelt Park.

Long story long:

Following the May 25th killing of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, there have been mass protests, some of which have involved the vandalism and/or toppling of statues to individuals ranging from confederate generals and leaders to former presidents like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

On July 3rd, in Keystone, South Dakota, the President of the United States announced plans for a National Garden of American Heroes, citing his concerns about the vandalism, destruction, and removal of the aforementioned statues and what he suggested was the erasure of American history, the erasure of America’s heroes, and the erasure of American values.

Here are the 31 individuals the president said must be memorialized as part of this:

Billy Graham
Antonin Scalia
Ronald Reagan
John Adams
Susan B. Anthony
Daniel Boone
Davy Crockett
Amelia Earhart
Alexander Hamilton
Abraham Lincoln
Douglas MacArthur
Christa McAuliffe
George Patton
Betsy Ross
George Washington
Wilbur Wright
Orville Wright
Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain
Henry Clay
Benjamin Franklin
Thomas Jefferson
Dolley Madison
James Madison
Audie Murphy
Harriet Beecher Stowe
Clara Barton
Booker T. Washington
Frederick Douglass
Harriet Tubman
Martin Luther King Jr.
Jackie Robinson

The Administration has also said the list is not exhaustive. In other words, the proposed garden would also honor other individuals.

As part of these plans, the president tasked the Secretary of the Department of the Interior to propose options for the creation of a National Garden of American Heroes, including potential locations for the site, and it has come to my attention that one of the locations that the Department is most strongly considering is Greenbelt Park, which is the national park on Greenbelt Road across the street from TGI Friday’s and Capitol Cadillac.
