As a WRIR DJ, I agree to these rules & policies:
1. I have completed at least a three-session training with existing WRIR DJs and have taken the station’s volunteer and FCC tests.

2. I will show up on time for my shift, and if I cannot show up for some reason, I will either find a substitute DJ who is fully trained, record a show that can be aired in the place of my live show, or arrange for a rerun show to air by communicating with a volunteer who can upload a recorded show. Unless there is an emergency, this must be arranged at least 24 hours in advance. Multiple no-shows could lead to suspension.

3. I will NOT ask a friend to substitute DJ for me who is not fully trained at WRIR; nor will I provide my passcode to anyone else. These are considered serious offenses and could lead to suspension.

4. I will be responsible for all guests I invite to the station. They must abide by all rules governing DJs, including obeying FCC regulations and station policies.

5. I (and my guests) will not consume alcohol or drugs at the station, nor show up intoxicated at the station. This is also considered a serious offense that could lead to suspension.

6.  I will treat all radio station property with respect and return all settings how they were when I arrived. If something breaks by accident, I will inform the board president and operations committee members.

7. I will follow all FCC/DMCA regulations, including:

      a. No profanity or obscenities over the air, whether in a song or spoken

      b. No dead air

      c.      No promotion of events which the DJ or guest is paid to do, or endorsing a product or service for personal gain. Also known as “plugola” or “payola,” this often applies to DJs or guests discussing an upcoming event. The event can be mentioned, along with date, time and location, but there cannot be a call to action — i.e. “you should come out.” This applies only to on-air. You can link to event info on the WRIR website.

      d. No calls to action, i.e. telling the audience they should do something. The one exception is for station-sponsored events.

      e. According to DMCA, during a three-hour period, you can play no more than three tracks from a given album, and no more than two consecutively. You can play no more than four songs from a boxed set, and no more than three consecutively. More info here.

      f.   Reading the call letters at the top of the hour (from :58 to :02)

8. I will read all underwriting as written, read or play one PSA and one promo each hour, and record all information on the show log if I am in the studio.

9. I will post each show’s playlist on Spinitron within a week of the show’s airing, as well as share that playlist in a post on WRIR’s website, including if the show is pre-recorded. Multiple failures could lead to short-term suspension.

10.  I will volunteer for one shift during both annual fund drives.

11.  I will abide by all COVID-19 related safety measures while they are in place, including coming to the station only if I have been vaccinated, limiting the number of station guests and wearing a mask when in an enclosed space with other people (with some exceptions, including speaking into a microphone).

12. I will be respectful of all other volunteers and guests at the station.
