Dear Neighbor,
Union Hill School District (UHSD) provides high-quality traditional education for over 700 students from preschool through middle school. Dedicated educators and staff are committed to creating a safe and supportive learning environment that fosters academic achievement, responsible citizenship, and a passion for lifelong learning. High-quality schools that cultivate student success improve our community’s quality of life and help preserve the value of local homes.
While school maintenance staff do their best to keep classrooms and school facilities safe and clean, our school was built to safety and educational standards from a different era. In fact, parts of our campus are approaching 90 years in age. Basic repairs and upgrades are needed to keep Union Hill classrooms and facilities safe and working for our students.
To meet these needs, District leadership is currently evaluating options for funding these improvements, including utilizing capital reserves and accessing available State funds. However, even with all of these potential resources, many needs would remain. As such, the Board is now considering another option utilized by many California school districts, a request for local funding in the form of a “General Obligation (GO) Bond” to provide dedicated local funding for repairs and upgrades.
A bond measure would require a detailed project list showing how funds are expected to be used, an independent citizens’ oversight committee, and annual audits to ensure funds are used as promised.
However, before we decide to go in that direction, we want input from as many of our community members as possible.
Please take 5-10 minutes to answer the following questions. We appreciate your time and feedback.
