Survey: Belmar History + Art
Belmar History + Art (BH+A) is a civic commemoration project that honors the former Belmar neighborhood and African American contributions to Santa Monica’s historical development and cultural life.
BH+A began with research and community engagement that informed the ongoing educational program and permanent art that will be placed around the new Civic Center Multipurpose Sports Field, now called Historic Belmar Park.

When and how did you first hear about the former Belmar neighborhood?
We are collecting images. Do you have any historical images or video to contribute for possible use for BH+A?
We are collecting stories and information. Do you have anything to share about the Civic Center area from before the 1950s?
Is there anyone the BH+A team should interview about this history? Such as former residents, church members, etc.
What would you like to see commemorated in this project?
