All trash fashions are to be made primarily with post-consumer waste/upcycled materials with the possible exception of thread, some glue, etc. Min 85-90% of design elements are to be composed of post consumer waste/items destined for the landfill. No new materials like batteries, etc.
The winners in each category will receive cash and prizes and some works will be displayed at the Nelson Museum, Archives & Gallery in the weeks following the show and also considered for a mini fashion at some area festivals.
Submissions are open to the public. No previous design experience necessary. Open to any skill level, ages 11 and up, 10 and under with adult support. Age guidelines are suggestions.
There are no refunds for registration fees if withdrawing from the competition.
Designs can be submitted by individuals or groups (of up to 3 designers) with the exception of School Group Entries which can have more designers.
Designers may enter a design from the previous year if that design did not receive any awards although modifications are recommended for improved rating.
Each ensemble design can be entered into one (1) category only. An accessory that is part of an ensemble (like a hat, earrings, handbag, etc.) can also be entered into the Accessories category.
Designers can enter as many categories as they wish and may enter up to three (3) designs in each category.
Designers are responsible for transporting their designs to and from the theatre as per the appointed dates and times.
If any category has less than three (3) entries, we reserve the right to combine with another category, excluding Youth and Art/Sculpture.
All participating designers are required to attend the dress rehearsal and adjusdication events in the days before the show. Any scheduling conflicts need to be addressed promptly with Marilyn hautetrashnelson@gmail.com. Artists/designers are solely responsible for the transportation of works to and from the theatre at the appointed times. If unable to attend in person, designers are responsible for securing someone to do this for them and providing their name, phone number and email to hautetrashnelson@gmail.com
Designers are required to respond in a timely manner to all communications from the event production team.
All designs must be Original Works - created within the past 2 years.
Collaborative submissions accepted if a maximum of three (3) artists/designers with the exception of school groups which can have more designers.
Submissions must be safe for models to wear (unless for display only)
Artists/designers are responsible for transportation of works to and from the theatre at the appointed times.
Neither Marilyn Hatfield, nor the R.A.D. Society, nor Haute Trash, is liable for any damages. Artists should carry their own insurance.
We reserve the right to revoke any registration or submissions at any time.
