The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Geological Society of Australia (GSA), herein ACT-GSA,
is committed to fostering the professional development of student members by providing
support for attendance at conferences and similar events. The following
requirements must be met by students receiving a bursary:
- Current Membership: Applicants must be current financial members of the ACT-GSA at the
time of application and throughout the duration of the event for which the bursary is
awarded.
- Written Justification of Impact: A written justification must be provided to the ACT-GSA,
outlining the applicant’s purpose of attending the conference. This justification
should articulate how the experience aligns with the goals and mission of the GSA (see here for the Mission Statement), and how it contributes to the recipient's professional
development. Maximum 300 words.
- Short description of why applicants require support funding, so in the case where more
applicants apply than funding is available, funding can be prioritised to those with the
greatest need and to ensure diversity in recipients. Maximum 150 words.
- Recipient/s of ACT-GSA bursaries cannot also be the recipient/s of other grants/subsidies.
Following attendance at the conference the bursary recipient must, within 6
months:
- Present at Divisional Meeting: This presentation should highlight the key insights, learnings,
and experiences gained from the event, demonstrating the tangible benefits to their
professional development. Maximum 15 min presentation.
- Contribution to ACT-GSA Newsletter: Recipients are expected to contribute an article to the
ACT Geological Society of Australia newsletter, summarising their experiences at the
conference. This article should provide valuable insights for other members
and promote the exchange of knowledge within the society.
By adhering to these requirements, bursary recipients not only fulfil their obligations to the ACT
Geological Society of Australia but also contribute to the collective growth and
knowledge-sharing within the geological community
