Nominate a champion of inclusiveness for our region
The Richard K. Wager Diversity Champion Award pays tribute to a Dutchess or Ulster County individual, organization and/or business advancing the cause of inclusiveness in our communities. This could be through business practices, community service, education or other efforts. The actions could include fostering race relations, embracing sexual orientation and helping those with physical disabilities.

The award is named after Richard K. Wager, retired publisher of the Journal, who, during his more than 40-year career, championed numerous diversity initiatives among employees and in the community. Nominations can be made on behalf of people, organizations, business, nonprofits, and/or government entities. The spirit of the award is to advance the cause of equality among people.

Nominations should be no more than 500 words and can be accompanied by letters of testimonials from those benefiting from the individual or organization. The winner will be selected by a panel of community members and members of the Journal staff. The recipient will be honored at the Catharine Street Community Center's annual Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast in January. Nominations must be sent by Dec. 7. Self-nominations are welcome.

Nominations also can be sent to pjevents@poughkeepsiejournal.com or by regular mail to the attention of John Penney at Poughkeepsie Journal, 85 Civic Center Plaza, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., 12601
