Disruptive Class Behavior:
This is a fantastic setting to learn so much! Some behaviors might be appropriate at home - but not in a class setting. Learning social skills can be a challenge for our littles, and this is the best opportunity for you, and other caregivers, to teach our littles.
Disruptive behaviors are:
Hitting, pushing, running non-stop, screaming, any behavior that infringes on another families opportunity to enjoy class.
(These behaviors are not common, but I want everyone to have the same game plan at Knox Kindermusik - so we are ready to help guide and teach when necessary.)
Pushing/hitting - Please remove your little from class (we can utilize the room across the hall), for a minute to two minutes calm down time and reset. This isn't a long re-set. Then quickly return to class fun.If your little pushes or hits another again, repeat the reset option.
If there is a third time it might be the time to call it a day, rarely does a third event occur....
The pushing and hitting isn't out of anger, they are exploring social boundaries, we as adults are here to teach appropriate social and class behaviors.
Kindermusik is a weekly highlight for our littles and they will learn quickly that hitting/pushing isn't appropriate in class.
Constant running - not stopping when asked to stop - use the verbiage: slow feet - let's walk in class. Running is unsafe for both the little running and possible others they run into.
If they continue to run after verbal re-direction a quick re-set across the hall should help decrease class running.
Screaming - A little squeal here and there is normal - especially when the parachute and bubbles come out :) But, if your little is screaming and isn't responding to "indoor voice" or other re-directions... this is another opportunity to re-set across the hall.
We really haven't experienced a lot of disruptive behaviors - but we really want to be on the same page and be pro-active instead of reactive.
Our "re-set" plan is working like a charm - and on average it occurs once or twice a week.... and we run over 20 classes a week, so again - not a common event.
Excessive Adult Conversation - we understand that being around your friends is WONDERFUL..... however, please keep you conversations to a minimum during class. This is your time to focus on teaching your child how to listen and participate in future learning opportunities.
Please chat away during gathering time, and after class around the train/marble tables.
If you have questions about this policy please ask!
We are here to help and assist - but our first obligation is to facilitate a fantastic & fun music class for you and your little and your classmates.
