This NASM and documenta 16 course explores moments across time (past and present)—and across cultures—when groups overcome deep divisions and come together to solve shared challenges. By examining these stories, participants will consider what it takes to bridge divides, build trust, and create new possibilities through collaboration.

The Basics
  • We will NOT meet on Friday, April 3, 2026
  • Collaboration is a central and guiding ethos of the school
  • Syllabus and reading material will be provided
  • Courses offer the opportunity to take part in an outcome project (post-course)
  • If you are not able to commit to regular attendance (no more than 1 absence), please don’t apply for this course round, but join another time
  • If you are geographically present in Kassel, Germany or the transmission site (St. Helena Island, SC and Weeksville, NY) then please attend in person
