WHAT IS GIRLS JAZZ DAY?
We believe girls belong in music, especially in jazz. At this half day workshop, you'll make friends, connect with amazing women role models, and come away being inspired to improve and develop your musical skills.

You'll build more confidence when taking a solo and improvising. We'll work on teaching you the basics and you'll build on them in a supportive atmosphere. We're here to help you along the way!

Check-in with our volunteers and meet our instructors and mentors who will be working with students all day.

9:00 AM - 9:30 AM - Welcome!
Listen as our instructors perform a welcome tune and introduce who they are! We'll be joined by very special guest, world-class violinist Sara Caswell!

9:30 AM - 11AM - Jazz Improv
Students have the opportunity to self-select which group they want to perform in. Not sure what to select? We generally recommend the following:
· Beginning = no experience, typically 10-11 years old
· Intermediate = some jazz experience, typically 11-13 years old
· Advanced = play in a jazz group regularly, typically 13 years old and up

11:15 AM - 12:00 PM - Women Running the Show - A Panel Discussion with Women in Jazz
Curious what it's like to be a woman or girl in jazz? Want to know more about how our clinicians and instructors got to where they are today? In this interactive panel discussion, students will have the opportunity to lead the discussion and ask questions to participating individuals.

12:00 PM - 12:30 PM - Lunch

12:30 PM - 1:00 PM - Clinician Jam

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Closing Jam and Reflections

WHAT TO BRING
Instrument, sack lunch, and refillable water bottle. Girls who play drums and piano do not need to bring instruments. If you play bass or tuba and can bring your bass or tuba, please do. If you play bass or tuba and can't bring yours, email Ashley at ashley@preshallfoundation.org to make arrangements.

We sincerely look forward to having you join us at Girls Jazz Day!
