Our research broadly focuses on the development of social cognition. We run a number of studies with children aged 2-12 years old, largely focused on determining how children navigate various aspects of the social world. Our work includes studies on how children think about social groups, how they expect people to interact with one another, and how they think about morality. More information about our research can be found at http://www.developingmindslab.com.
Interns will work closely with Dr. Chalik and other members of the lab on new and ongoing studies, participating fully in all aspects of the research process. Interns will become familiar with the experimental methods used in research with young children and will immediately become involved in designing and setting up studies, recruiting and testing participants, coding and analyzing results, and interpreting research findings. Interns will also attend a weekly lab meeting where we discuss the theoretical motivation for our studies, new research ideas, experimental data, and relevant research findings from other labs.
The internship will involve a full-time commitment of 35 hours per week for the eight weeks of the program, including some hours on Sundays. The internship is best suited for students interested in pursuing graduate studies in developmental, social, or cognitive psychology. Interested students should be responsible, organized, good at communicating, and intellectually curious, with basic computer skills and a major in Psychology or a related field. Our research involves interacting with young children and their parents in public places, so excellent people skills are a must. Experience working with young children (in any capacity) is strongly preferred, as is previous coursework in Developmental Psychology. Prior research experience is not necessary.
