Support the King Street Bike Lane
Push the College of Charleston to publically support the King Street bike lane on Lower King. This bike lane would increase safety for pedestrians and bicyclists on King, many of which are faculty, staff and students of the College. At the bottom of this form you will also find an email template that you can use if you would like to reach out to President Hsu regarding the bike lane. Thank you so much for supporting this effort and working to protect all students traveling on and around King Street :)

The two plans that are currently on the table. The original plan would have a buffered bike lane and a single lane of traffic, the new plan would have just a single extra wide (14') lane and cut over 3000 feet of federally funded bike lane from Lower King (Calhoun St. to Broad St.)

Hello President Hsu,

My name is [Your name] and I am reaching out today to urge you to have the College of Charleston publically support the King Street bike lane. King Street is the 3rd most dangerous street in the state for pedestrians and bicyclists, and with students having to cross and travel on King Street daily to get to and from their classes, homes, and work it would be in the students' best interest to support this proposed bike lane.

With many students not being able to park on campus (as they are required to complete 60 credit hours before being granted a parking pass) they must rely on other methods, (e.g. walking and biking). And with a much larger Freshman class than typical, nearly 500 more students than usual, it is imperative that we work to protect the influx of vulnerable road users that will be using Lower King Street.

The current plan calls for Lower King would call for combining the two lanes of traffic into one, cutting the bike lane completely, and creating a 14 foot wide lane. Wider lanes of travel are shown to increase motor vehicle speeds making it unsafe for vulnerable road users (e.g. pedestrians and bicyclists).

For the sake of student safety please consider making a public statement supporting the King Street bike lane, so that all students may continue to travel on and around campus without fearing for their well-being.

Thank you
