Dance in school is very different than dance in a private studio or the dance shows that you see on T.V. In this class you will focus on learning how to create dance. You will learn some new dance movements, work on proper dance technique, and try different dance styles, but our main focus will be on choreography.
We will spend the quarter concentrating on learning how to properly use our bodies in ways that avoid injury, learning about the elements of dance, and understanding how dance was a significant part of all ancient cultures.
Homebase/Power Schools and the dance website are wonderful tools for communication about grades and assignments. Please make it a habit to check these sites at least once a week to stay updated on the latest assignments, announcements, etc. You can find a link to my website on the Holly Grove Middle website as well as at the bottom of my email signature. I ask that all students and parents read and become thoroughly familiar with the contents of this handbook in order to avoid any misunderstandings as we progress through the quarter. This handbook contains policies and procedures that will be in effect for the 2017-2018 school year. Supplies are due by the 6th day of the quarter. Please let me know if you need help in getting the supplies for your child. It is extremely important that students have their supplies on time and each and every day. This will help ensure that your child has a successful quarter.
Parents, feel free to contact me anytime at school (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions that you may have. I look forward to an exciting and prosperous quarter.
Sincerely,Meghan Retseck, Dance Director
