This week the HISD Board of trustees will announce the end of the Ad Hoc Committee on Special Education. https://www.houstonisd.org/SpecialEdGroup
Is there a need for Trustee level involvement in special education oversight? What do you think? Please answer some questions.....
This survey FOCUSSES ON Trustee Level involvement. Here are your trustees - https://www.houstonisd.org/domain/10786
While I ask for general information, the SURVEY DOES NOT ask for identifying information except emails. Responses will be reported in aggregate without identifiers. Emails are only collected to dissuade ballot stuffers (vote early, vote often!). Respondents cannot see other emails.
Please please please do not share 1) ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION ON STUDENTS 2) ANY personal CRITIQUES OF PERSONNEL. Please address personal concerns to your principal or, if not resolved, to your school trustee or a trustee at large.
Thank you for your time.

The Board of HISD took action and formed an ad hoc committee.
SPECIAL EDUCATION AD HOC COMMITTEEDescription: The purpose of the Special Education Ad Hoc Committee is to
● Assess the District's current special education program; ● Review the findings of the Houston Chronicle's recent investigative series on special education as they concern the District;● Identify strengths and areas for improvement for the District with regards to special education; ● Improve two-way communication between the District and other stakeholders, in particular parents, with regards to special education;● Report back to the full Board with recommendations
The special education ad hoc committee met since early 2017. The committee's intent was to inform and to educate the elected Trustees.
The trustees plan to dissolve the committee on Thursday. As a committee member, I seek your opinion? Do we need the Trustees to continue their work on special education?
