If you are selected to coach in VMHA, you will also be required to have completed the required Hockey Canada/National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) course(s) applicable to the age group you are applying for in order to
be eligible to coach in VMHA (as outlined in our Policies & Procedures,
which comply with Hockey Canada & Hockey Alberta).
Please note that if you have not completed Coach 1, Coach 2 and/or Checking Skills in prior years, there are online courses that must be taken prior to attending the in-person course. The online Coach 1 (U7/U9) & Coach 2 (U11 - U18) are now Player Pathway courses.
Hockey Alberta coaching requirements can be found below and here: https://www.hockeyalberta.ca/coaches/clinic-information/
November 15th is the deadline to which you MUST have all required courses completed. Our association does not have plans to host any coaching courses, so travel to outside communities will be required in order to attend any in-person courses (Coach 1, Coach 2, Checking).
Upcoming coaching courses can be found here: https://page.spordle.com/ha/clinics.
It is recommended you register for a course as early as possible, as these courses do fill up.
Notes:
- Respect in Sport - Activity leader expires every 4 years and needs to be taken again upon expiry, if you are applying to be a head or assistant coach (all team officials are required to have it). Login/registration found here: https://ha.respectgroupinc.com/koala_final/
- Safety course expires every 3 years and is required by one team official, though is recommended for all coaching staff
