Invitation:
We invite Canadian residents aged 55 and older, who currently hold or have held a valid driver's license within the past year, to participate in this survey. The survey is conducted online and anonymously by Lindsay McCauley at Carleton University’s Advanced Cognitive Engineering Laboratory, under the supervision of Dr. Kathleen Van Benthem. The study is funded by the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institute of Aging.
Objectives and Summary:
This study aims to understand the experiences, needs, and challenges of mature drivers across Canada. The survey will ask about your driving habits, health, safety concerns, and opinions on driving technology. Your feedback will help us develop technology to support safe driving.
We estimate that the survey will take about 20 to 30 minutes to complete. Your participation in this survey is voluntary, and you may choose not to take part, or not to answer any of the questions. Once submitted, responses cannot be modified or withdrawn. We aim to survey 50 participants.
Risks and Benefits: We do not anticipate any risks from taking the survey, nor do we anticipate that you will derive any direct benefit.
Confidentiality and Data Storage:
Your responses to this survey are anonymous and will not be linked to any personal identifiers. We ensure that all data is handled with the utmost confidentiality, and no information that could reveal your identity will be disclosed or published. Research records may be reviewed by the Carleton University Research Ethics Board to verify compliance with ethical standards.
Your data will be stored and protected by Google Forms, but may be disclosed via a court order or data breach. We will password protect any research data that we store or transfer. Your data will be retained for a period of ten years and then securely destroyed.
