Hello--
I am an undergraduate student studying statistics. I am inviting you to participate in this research study of Knitting Time and Level of Expertise. I am interested in finding out if expertise makes knitting time faster and, if so, is that difference statistically significant.
Your participation in this study will require the completion of the attached survey. This should take approximately 5 minutes of your time. Your participation will be anonymous and you will not be contacted again in the future.
For the survey, you will assess yourself as a beginner, intermediate, or advanced knitter. Then you'll look at three patterns (a washcloth, a scarf, and a hat) and estimate how long it would take you to finish each pattern. The patterns were chosen because they could be completed by a beginner and they are freely available on the internet (credited).
You will not be paid for being in this study. This survey involves minimal risk to you. The benefits, however, may impact society by helping increase knowledge about how knitting expertise relates to knitting speed.
You do not have to be in this study if you do not want to be. You do not have to answer any question that you do not want to answer for any reason.
We will be happy to answer any questions you have about this study. If you have further questions about this project or if you have a research-related problem you may contact me or my advisor by including your email in the comments section and I will reply to you. (No offense, but social media, right?)
The completion of this survey implies your consent to participate. If you choose to
participate, please complete the attached survey and return it by April 1st.
Thank you!
